I get a lot of woodpeckers at my feeders, but downy woodpeckers are the most common, as well as the bravest. I was able to get within 10 feet or so of this one and got several very good shots.
The second most common species has to be the red-bellied woodpecker, which are much larger, but they come and go so quickly that I’ve never been able to get a clear shot of one. I’ve been keeping my camera ready just in case.
